Mobile platforms and architectures are perhaps not far from incorporating virtual world platforms, but somewhere along that path, it seems there will be a radically different mode of virtual interaction involving the capability of technology to generate large volumes of virtual world data in real time.

Three things to look for:
- keep an eye on Microsoft in the commercial and consumer mobile market (it doesn't take a genius to put these things together, but perhaps some architectural evolution and engineering) http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/18908/Report-Microsoft-Plans-to-Buy-3DV-Systems/ http://www.it-director.com/business/content.php?cid=2016
- look for higher bandwidth made possible by devices that utilize radio white space as it applies to networked mobile devices (the trunk will remain fiber, but local wireless will significantly boost mobile connectivity) http://seekingalpha.com/article/107522-thoughts-on-the-white-space-phenomenon
- legal battles

Most importantly we should demand these things, demand synchronous connectivity, demand white space devices, we are on the verge (on a fundamental consumer/user based level) of being able to document our world and share information in real time on an unprecedented level and not only as it pertains to contextual virtual simulation of the real world, but along side that we are creating an impressionistic virtual reality which is becoming ever more connected and seamless. Altogether these processes will generate a rebirth of the internet analogous to the difference between the original printing press and the original internet. That's going to no doubt involve a good deal of legislation and on the other side lots of mergers and patent turf wars etc. Those who benefit most directly from all of that will command a great deal of our ability to access and use these technologies. We should be very careful not to give away our access or let someone over charge us for it.
